If you want to divide people on social media, you could ask them about politics. Or you could just ask them where to get the best pizza.

People have strong feelings about pizza, and they aren’t afraid to share them.

Favorite pizza styles are widely varied, from the deepest Chicago deep dish to the thinnest foldable New York slice. In between the two extremes are New Jersey-style, Detroit-style, Sicilian and Neopolitan, to name just a few.

And then there’s the seemingly endless list of sauces and toppings, from plain cheese to classic pepperoni to all the meats and all the veggies. Should we dare even type the word pineapple?

Over the next month, Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette readers will get a chance to vote for their favorite pizza joint in Beaufort County.

Right now, we are simply asking for nominations. The top 16 nominees will move into the next round. Once the first cut is made, following rounds will continue to slice the field in half until there’s one pie left standing alone.

Chains, food trucks, new restaurants and long-time local establishments are all eligible. We’d love to find some hidden gems.

Please note the only prize is bragging rights.

So here’s the question, dear reader: Which Beaufort County business serves the best pizza? (For the contrarians among us, “none” is not an acceptable answer in this case and will not be included.)

Fill in the form below by Monday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. and watch islandpacket.com next week for the announcement of the top 16 so you can vote your favorite into the next round.
