Teen uses Facebook in search for father

via Facebook

In 1996 a man and woman met at the K-rockathon music festival in Syracuse, NY and sparks flew.

Nine months later the woman had a child, and this week the child — 18-year-old Jette Collins of Durhamville, NY — posted a photo to Facebook asking for help finding his father.

Collins' post went viral, and thousands joined the teen in his search, sharing the post 9,888 times on Facebook alone.

“I am not asking for anything,” Collins wrote. “Just would like to meet my biological father.”

Collins returned to Facebook Thursday to update the world on his progress.

"Thank you all for (your) support and all the help you guys have provided me with," Collins said. "I couldn't … even have this opportunity without any of you."

The search has not yielded a lead yet, "but it's still early," Collins said.

"I still have faith and hope one of my dreams (will) come true."

This is far from the first time social media has been used to reunite family members. Just last month a woman used Facebook to find the daughter stolen from her 18 years ago.
