Hilton Head proclaims February 'Gullah Celebration Month'

The Town of Hilton Head Island has proclaimed February 'Native Islander Gullah Celebration Month.'

The town made the proclamation at its regular town council meeting Tuesday, according to a news release.

The proclamation honors the annual Gullah Celebration's 20th anniversary.

Since 1996, the celebration has showcased the Gullah people of Hilton Head's language, food, cultural customs and crafts, according to the proclamation.

This year's Gullah Celebration will run from Feb. 1-28 at various locations throughout Hilton Head Island and Bluffton.
