First sentence: "Using nothing but the water's current to finish the moonlit journey, a slim boat carrying two passengers glided along Thailand's Pai River."

Plot summary in 50 words or less: Set in Savannah, "In Shadows" tells the story of Nelson Davis, a former soldier who is the last surviving member of his family after his brother's puzzling death. Davis teams up with a beautiful newspaper reporter to decipher a series of perplexing clues that lead them down an unexpected path to the truth.

Story behind the book: Although "In Shadows" is a stand-alone book, it is also the prequel to my first book, "Lonely Deceptions." I wanted to explore what Nelson Davis' life was like when he was young and how he deals with the sudden death of his brother. And, of course, the strange events that he must contend with.

Earliest writing memory: In the '80s, I would write and then read sci-fi short stories to my mother, who had lost most of sight due to diabetes.

Favorite books: Anything by Stephen King, Sidney Sheldon and Brenda Novak.

What's next? I'm currently writing my third book, "Cascading Lies," which is the sequel to "Lonely Deceptions" and the final chapter in the lives of the Davis family.
