It's about to look a bit more like summer at Hilton Head Island restaurants.
The fifth annual Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Restaurant Week, running Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, brings out the crowds as if it's the middle of tourist season. And for good reason.
The 60 or so participants set up fixed-price menus that typically offer bargains on multi-course meals. For the restaurants, it's a way to drum up business during a slow time of the year. For foodies, it's a time to try out that new restaurant you've heard about or check out a pricey place on the cheap.
Adding a bit of fun to the week, the chamber started a contest last year -- Best Restaurant Week experience. Guests could go to the chamber website and vote on the best meal they had. The winner last year was the veteran Hilton Head seafood house Hudson's. It's back to defend the title with a unique small plate menu. Good luck -- there's some stiff competition.
