Devoted Cockatoo Guards Sleeping Dad in Sweet Clip

It's been said that some birds, like the more social, vocal, and intelligent Parrot species, bond strongly with one person, and everyone else is in the way. Since I've never had one of these incredible birds, I had no idea how this plays out in real life-until the internet blessed my timeline with a slew of particular feathery companions who've chosen their number one and declared anyone else as a spare.

Charlie Jr. is one of my favorite Cockatoos on the planet. He's renowned for his sweet relationship with Dad, but also for how quickly he turns into a villain when it comes to Mom. Even something as basic as nap time means Charlie's on duty to keep Dad safe, and he WILL make sure Mom doesn't bother the two of them!

As captioned in jest, Mom "sleeps with one eye open," and I don't blame her! It doesn't matter to Charlie that she takes care of him all day while Dad's at work because his loyalty to his papa trumps everyone and everything. Honestly, we could all be so lucky to have a bestie like this devoted Cockatoo, right?

When Dad's not getting some shut-eye, Charlie is still lurking like he works security. It's probably because his relationship with Dad is a lot different from what he shares with Mom, or anyone else. At the end of every day, Charlie gets his one-on-one time with his favorite guy, and the two rock out, dance, and headbang to some cool jams.

Why Cockatoos Bond Most With One Human

As a species, Cockatoos bond with just one person because instinctively, these social, sometimes clingy birds are monogamous, and it transfers to one human they perceive as their flock partner or mate. They're driven by the need for emotional security, affection, and early hand-rearing, which results in an intense bond with that one person more than anyone else.

With a love like that, Charlie's Dad is one lucky guy (sorry, Mom)!
