SC woman raised girl as her own. She just pleaded guilty to kidnapping her as a baby
A South Carolina woman who was accused of kidnapping an infant nearly 20 years ago pleaded guilty on Monday to the crime.
Gloria Williams raised 19-year-old Alexis Manigo as her own while living in Colleton County, the Jacksonville Times-Union reported. Though Manigo has met her birth parents since Williams’ arrest, she continues to support the only woman she knows as her mother.
Williams is accused to kidnapping Manigo – then named Kamiyah Mobley – as a newborn from a Jacksonville, Fla., hospital in 1988. The girl grew up feeling she may have been kidnapped, but also believing Williams was her biological mother, according to WCSC.
But in January 2017, a tip sent to federal officials led investigators to Walterboro, where they found Mobley living as Manigo.
