Country Star Clint Black Reveals Wife Lisa Suffered 4 Pregnancy Losses

Country singer Clint Black is reflecting on past fertility struggles he experienced with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black.

In an interview with People published on Friday, May 15, Clint, 64, revealed that Lisa, 69, endured four pregnancy losses before the couple welcomed their daughter, Lily, 25.

"We encouraged each other when we needed it," he recalled. "It was a painful, scary time. Something we wanted was seemingly less and less attainable. So this just creates a little bit of turmoil, but we had each other to lean on."

Clint said he and Lisa, whom he married in 1991, decided to keep the pregnancy losses private at the time to "keep hope alive." But now that it's been years, talking about it "isn't as difficult."

The "Killin' Time" singer and his wife, who is also a singer and actress, welcomed Lily in May 2001.

Clint called the day of their daughter's birth "exhaustingly joyful."

"It was so great that it just beats everything. And the joy of it, it would just wear us out," he continued.

Now that Lily is pursuing a music career of her own, Clint said he's been showing her the ropes - and she's taught him a few new skills in turn.

"She'll get me to do things that no one else would get me to do. We just taped four things for a funny video that I could never have imagined doing. I came up with some of the silliness myself," he explained. "Lisa couldn't believe I was willing to do it. That's what a kid will do. I knew when she was born, I'm going to live a different kind of life than I've been living."

Clint and Lisa, who is known for her role in Knots Landing, met and began dating in 1990.

"I knew I was looking at somebody amazing," Clint told People in March 2025. "I didn't know anything about her. I didn't know her TV show. I just looked at her eyes and I was just, wow!"

They have since become one of the most beloved - and unexpected - country man-Hollywood girl pairings. They've also dipped their toes into each other's careers. In 1999, Lisa and Clint released their duet "When I Said I Do," which is also the title of their upcoming Lifetime movie, premiering May 23.

"We love appearing in anything together," Lisa told Music Mayhem at the movie's premiere on Tuesday, May 12. "Thirty-five years of marriage almost … We were honored to be asked and [executive producer] Adam Reed called and had an idea and we loved it and here we are. We're still pinching ourselves. It's just wonderful. The turnout is beautiful and the actors in it are wonderful and we have a small part in it and thank goodness because we save the day."

Clint - who releases his memoir, Killin' Time: My Life and Music, on May 19 - added, "I was excited about how much involvement we would actually have in shaping the movie. So anything creative and collaborative for me is fun."
