The View's Alyssa Farah Griffin's 2-Month-Old Had 'Major' Surgery, Was in ICU

Alyssa Farah Griffin opened up about a recent health scare her 2-month-old baby experienced that landed him in the ICU.

"My son ended up needing a major operation," Griffin, 36, revealed on the Monday, May 4, episode of "The View" podcast via People. "I'm actually not going to get into the details only because I will just turn into a puddle talking about it, but he had to get a surgery this weekend."

The View cohost explained that she and husband Justin Griffin "spent the weekend in the ICU with him."

Alyssa noted that she didn't tell anyone about Justin Patrick Jr.'s procedure as she was "going through the motions" and trying not to worry.

"And thank the Lord, it went beyond well. The doctor said he's doing even better than expected, hitting every milestone," Alyssa shared on the podcast. "He's going to be great. He'll never know in his life other than that we told him that he had this. There'll never be signs or anything."

While the journalist didn't give exact details about her son's surgery, she called it the "hardest thing" she's ever been through.

"To watch a baby be helpless, but also have to entrust him into someone else's hands was like …it took every amount of strength that I have just to get through it all," Alyssa confessed.

Luckily, Justin Jr. is on the road to recovery and back home. "He's better, literally less than 24 hours, 12 hours after the surgery," she said. "He's smiling, flirting with the nurses. He's totally his father's son."

Alyssa recalled feeling at ease following the surgery when she got up at 3 a.m. in the morning from her "little cot" at the hospital to go to the bathroom.

"He caught my eyes because he was awake and he giggled, and I was like, ‘It's the happiest moment of my life,'" she gushed. "He's OK, he recognizes mama. And so I mean he's really just a little baby right now. He's not even 3 months yet."

Justin Jr.'s health scare came less than three months after Alyssa confirmed his birth on February 11 after going into labor one day prior and missing The View.

"The first thing we want to do is start by congratulating Alyssa and her husband, Justin, on the birth of their baby boy," Whoopi Goldberg said on the broadcast at the time, revealing the newborn was 7 pounds and 19.5 inches.

Two months later, Alyssa returned to work with her first show being on April 13.

"I am back. I'm a human lighter, but he is here, he is with us," Alyssa told the audience. "Little Justin is the most magical thing. All of you who are moms told me. They said your brain chemistry changes overnight, and it is so true. My world just feels more magical and full, and I'm just so grateful to him."
