Is anyone in that movie you’re watching accused of sexual misconduct? Check this site
It is getting pretty difficult to keep track of what allegations have been made against who in Hollywood these days, and the idea of seeing a movie or television show featuring, written, directed or produced by someone accused of sexual harassment or assault is deeply unpalatable to many people.
Luckily, for those who want to be absolutely positive that their entertainment is free from people tainted by the recent revelations of the “me too” movement, a new website will tell you if anyone involved in that movie or television show you want to watch has come under suspicion for harassment or assault.
The site, Rotten Apples, is searchable by title, and will tell you if any actor, director, screenwriter or executive producer has been accused of any type of sexual misconduct.
With Kevin Spacey being dropped from season six of “House of Cards” and replaced in the upcoming J. Paul Getty biopic “All the Money in the World” mere weeks before its release, Harvey Weinstein in exile, and actors from Dustin Hoffman to Jeremy Piven to Louis C.K. facing backlash over various allegations, it seems that both Hollywood and the public would like to keep as much distance between themselves and those caught up in these scandals as possible.
Even so, Rotten Apples says they are not an arbiter of guilt or innocence.
“By no means is this site meant to serve as a condemnation of an entire project,” says a statement on the website. “This database is not perfect, nor are the results meant to be taken as fact. Each link is sourced from an existing article and is not a reflection of our own opinions.”
Rotten Apples’ aim, according to the site, is to raise awareness of the pervasiveness of sexual misconduct in television and film and to make ethical viewing choices easier for consumers.
