Hilton Head singer Stee loses 3rd round on NBC’s ‘The Voice.’ How he’s still on the show
Hilton Head singer Stee performed on Monday night’s episode of “The Voice” and ended the show moving to a different celebrity coach’s team.
The episode of the NBC television reality show featured “Knockout Rounds” during which each of the four coaches — John Legend, Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire — pit three of their team members against each other in a singing competition. One singer in each grouping is declared the winner and advances immediately to the next round.
Stee, dressed in a dark blue suit and light gray turtleneck, performed Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings.”
“My first two songs were showing the performer in me. I wanted people to see that I could have a great time on stage. But with this song, I really want people to get a deeper view into who I am,” he says on the show.
During rehearsals, coach John Legend advised Stee to be more intentional with his ad-libs.
“I loved every minute of Stee,” said Wynonna, who is a guest coach for the Knockout Rounds. “He chose a very challenging song. He is just a package deal.”
Stee took the stage with teammates DeeJay Young, who performed “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” by Mint Condition, and Lila Forde, who performed James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain.”
Legend, despite being complimentary of Stee’s vocal skill, picked Forde as the winner of the round.
That’s when one of the show’s twists came into play. Stefani stepped in to “steal” Stee for her team.
Stee is just a flawless singer,” Stefani said. “He just exudes this amazing positivity and joy.”
The Knockouts continue airing on Tuesday, Nov. 14, on NBC and stream the following day on Peacock.
The next stage of the competition is called “The Playoffs,” during which each singer performs a solo and coaches pick the top three to advance to live shows where fans vote to save their favorites from elimination.
Stee, who uses a single name, lives in Bluffton but regularly performs with his band The Ear Candy at Kind of Blue, his family’s restaurant on Hilton Head.
The band is scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17; Saturday, Nov. 18; Friday, Nov. 24; and Saturday, Nov. 25.
Kind of Blue is located at 19 Dunnagans Alley.
