Rock music legend and Daufuskie resident John Mellencamp to perform in Savannah
Rock music legend John Mellencamp is coming to Savannah’s Johnny Mercer Theatre, promoters announced this week.
Mellencamp will perform his “Live and in Person” tour on April 23, 2024. It’s the closest opportunity Hilton Head area residents get to see the artist, who has a home nearby on Daufuskie Island, during this tour.
The tour has 27 stops across the United States but just one in South Carolina and one in Georgia. He is performing in Columbia on April 20.
Last time Mellencamp performed in Savannah, he was in front of a modest crowd at the First African Baptist Church, but this time he’ll be in front of up to 2,566 fans.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com and presale events started Tuesday. Ticket prices range from $49.50 to $149.50.
The performance will include songs from Mellencamp’s 25th studio album, “Orpheus Descending,” which focuses on social issues such as gun control.
The Grammy Award winner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and has sold more than 30 million records. Previously known as Johnny Cougar, he released hits such as “Jack & Diane,” “Hurts So Good” and “Pink Houses.”
