The annual Step Forward to Cure TSC walk is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at Jarvis Creek Park on Hilton Head Island.
Tuberous sclerosis complex causes noncancerous tumors to grow in the vital organs. TSC is the leading genetic cause of epilepsy and autism. About 1 million people have the disease worldwide, including 10-year-old Chloe Bredeson of Bluffton.
Registration for the walk will start at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m., there will be a yoga class for participants. After the walk, there will be refreshments, kids’ activities and entertainment by Cappy the Clown and Crush Entertainment with DJ Crush. South Carolina Sen. Tom Davis will speak about the use of CBD oil to treat epilepsy and Hilton Head mayor David Bennett will also speak.
The theme for the event is superheroes, and walkers are encouraged to dress like their favorite heroes — whether they be firefighters, police officers, doctors or Superman.
There is no fee to walk, but donations will be accepted. Participants can also register online by going to www.stepforwardtocuretsc.org, click on “Find a Walk” and scroll down to the South Carolina walk.
