Coastal Discovery Museum to open for free Family Fun Day in August

Family Fun Day will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Coastal Discovery Museum at 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island.

Visitors can take self-guided tours of the museum’s exhibits, including the Butterfly Enclosure and the barn and pasture that house the museum’s marsh tackies, Comet and Hawk. Kids and adults can throw a cast net, pull up a crab trap and tour the Heritage Garden to learn more about indigo. Bird-watching will also be available, as well as displays by the Heritage Library, Mitchelville Preservation Project, Lowcountry Master Naturalists and Outside Foundation.

During the day in the Kid’s Zone, children can try on Colonial clothing, play with Colonial toys and games, take a scavenger hunt on the painted mural wall and learn about shells, turtle bones and many other items found on the island.

This event is free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
