Walk to be held in honor of teen slain on Hilton Head

A one-mile walk will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. June 4 at Coligny Beach Park on Hilton Head Island to celebrate the life of Dominique Williams, who was killed there in July 2015.

Williams was shot to death at the busy south-end beach park when he was 17. He was killed by another teenager who wanted to settle a score, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report from that time.

Williams’ mother, Rudy Milton of Bluffton, is hosting the walk to promote a scholarship recently started through the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. The Dominique Williams Musician Corner Scholarship will go to students who want to pursue an education in music. Williams was an avid drummer and had planned to go to college for music.

“I want to give someone else the opportunity to fulfill Dominique’s dream,” Milton said.

Registration is required at www.walkfordom.org. The walk is free, but donations will be accepted for the scholarship fund.
