A new documentary film about Lyme disease featuring a Hilton Head Island woman and her son and will show at a special screening event coming up in April.
“Under Our Skin” — which tells the untold story of Lyme disease and those who suffer from the debilitating illness — will feature Elise Brady and her son Jared, of Hilton Head.
Both Brady and Jared were diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2001.
Brady will be a guest speaker at the event which starts at 5:30 p.m. April 5 at Park Plaza Cinema, 33 Office Park Road, Hilton Head.
The event will strive to raise awareness of the disease and will include a reception with food and wine. The documentary will show at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a question and answer period.
The event is also being held in honor of Vanessa Leite, of Bluffton, who was diagnosed in October 2015 after six years of dealing with debilitating illness and visits to more than 30 specialists.
Leite plans to speak as well as Dr. William Weirs, of the Center for Occupational & Environmental Medicine in Charleston, who treats Lyme disease patients.
Tickets are $10.
