Jewish, Catholic congregations to hold interreligious program

Two area congregations will hold an interreligious program commemorating the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate.

Congregation Beth Yam and Holy Family Catholic Church will present the inaugural program "A Journey of Friendship" at 7 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 24 Pope Ave., Hilton Head Island.

Passed by the Catholic Church in 1965, Nostra Aetate -- or "In Our Time" -- was the landmark declaration which discussed the unity of people of faith as well as the church's relationship with non-Christian religions.

The interreligious celebration will feature a keynote address, music and refreshments.

The program is free and open to people of all faiths.
