‘The underdogs:’ Animal rescue group hosts event to mark 12 years in the Lowcountry

Palmetto Animal League is set to put on an animal adoption event and concert Thursday at Autonation Subaru Hilton Head to celebrate 12 years of helping animals in the Lowcountry, according to a press release.

“By bringing shelter dogs together with potential adopters in a fun and festive atmosphere, AutoNation Subaru Hilton Head is helping give these animals a second chance at life,” said league President Amy Campanini.

The concert, deemed a “mutt mixer,” will kick off at 5:30 p.m. and last until 7:30 p.m. Pets are invited too, officials said in the press release. Door prizes, appetizers and live music by local bluegrass band Lowcountry Boil will be available as well as adoption fee waivers for anyone looking to bring a pet home. The fee waiver comes after a grant to the Palmetto Animal League from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

For every cat or dog adopted in October, the Subaru dealership has promised to donate $100 to the Palmetto Animal League to support its no-kill animal rescue programs.

The event was brought about as a way to help the “underdogs,” Campanini said.

“This event will touch the lives of homeless dogs waiting to find their perfect place in this world,” she said.
