Want to meet this Bluffton native before she competes in Miss America? Here’s how

The South Carolina Yacht Club on Hilton Head is hosting a tea party Sunday to send off Miss South Carolina 2021 Julia Herrin to the national competition.

The event is from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate Herrin, a Bluffton native, before she competes in the 100th Miss America competition on December 16 in Uncasville, Conneticut, and raise money for her platform centered around the message #RealNotPerfect.

Herrin, who is “a social media mentor and advocate for young women, will share her timely and critical message – Turning Social Media Illiteracy into Empowerment: On the Effects of Social Media in Youth,” a news release about the event said.

Julia Herrin is crowned Miss South Carolina at the Township Auditorium on Saturday, June 26, 2021. She was Miss Clarendon and is from Bluffton, South Carolina.

The #RealNotPerfect platform is a social impact initiative working to help users “overcome the negative ramifications of social media” and use it as a “catalyst for change,” the release said.

Herrin will also do a piano performance and take photos with attendees.

Tickets for the event will be available at the door for $20 a person or $30 for a family.

Herrin, who was crowned Miss South Carolina in June, was raised in the Lowcountry and homeschooled through high school before attending the Auburn University where she studied piano performance and communications on the pre-law track.
