Hilton Head’s ‘World’s Largest Yard Sale’ canceled this year. Here’s why and what’s next

The “World’s Largest Yard Sale,” typically held each March in the parking lot of Hilton Head Island High School, will not happen this year, but bargain shoppers shouldn’t dismay for too long: The popular event is expected to make a return in 2021.

“We will not be doing the annual yard sale this year, but we will be doing it next year,” said Katie Bolchoz, receptionist at the high school.

She explained that school administrators decided to take a year off from hosting the sale because of this being a transition year between two principals.

Steven Schidrich was named principal at Hilton Head Island High in August 2019. His predecessor, Amanda O’Nan, who served as principal for 13 years, resigned in May 2019.

The event offers residents the opportunity to rent a section of the parking lot at 70 Wilborn Road for the day to display items they want to sell.

Admission is free, and proceeds from the rentals and concessions benefit the school.
