Bluffton Self Help gets couple on road to savings, assistance after medical issue
Jim fell from his roof while trying to repair a leak and shattered both of his heels.
He couldn't work and needed surgery and physical therapy. He and his wife, Eleanor, had no medical insurance, and her single income was not enough to pay the bills or the gas expenses to take Jim to and from medical appointments.
They were unable to pay their mortgage and were referred to Bluffton Self Help. The agency signed them up for a food-assistance card so they could save money at the grocery store, and it made one month's mortgage payment.
Bluffton Self Help provides a broad range of social services for poor working families, the disabled, sick and elderly.
