5 must-see Bluffton neighborhoods decked out in Christmas lights
Note: This story was edited with reader suggestions on Dec. 13.
It may be warm enough for shorts and flip-flops, but the countdown to Christmas is marching on, and some neighborhoods in Bluffton are twinkling with holiday spirit.
If you don’t usually make it a tradition to drive around looking at holiday lights, 2019 is a good year to start.
At least two homes in Bluffton have set up massive Christmas light displays synchronized with music. One of those — Arborwood Lights — is such a staple that it’s listed on Google maps, while the Sharman Family Light Show is only in its second year.
Both are completely different and equally mesmerizing treats for passersby.
Those two houses aren’t the only displays worth piling your family and friends into your car for a drive around town. Several other neighborhoods have decorations sure to delight both young and old.
While you are driving around, keep your eyes out for Brandon Wooden and his Christmas car. After several years of risking traffic tickets by driving around Bluffton and Hilton Head, Wooden is taking his holiday light-covered vehicle into neighborhoods by request this year. Those interested in a visit can message him on Facebook or visit his “Spread the Glow” page.
Below are five neighborhoods in Bluffton you’ll want to be sure to see before the holiday season ends.
Cypress Ridge and Sharman Family Light Show
Cypress Ridge, which is off S.C. 170, is home to The Sharman Family Light Show. The neighborhood is decked out in lights and inflatables, but 43 Neligh Lane is where you’ll want to hang out for a while. Visitors are instructed to tune their radios to 99.3 FM, and as the music pumps through your vehicle’s speakers, the lights dance to the beat around the home. Video also is projected onto the garage door. The music isn’t all Christmasy; a recent night had a rotation that included a “Baby Shark” remix and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” This year, the family is accepting donations for the Wounded Warrior Project.
While you are in Cypress Ridge, check out 211 Argo Circle and others in that part of the neighborhood.
Arborwood Lights
The Arborwood Lights display is located off Buckwalter Parkway. The home’s address is 9 Arbormeade Circle, but it’s so well-established that you just have to type “Arborwood Lights” into Google Maps, and you’ll find the right place. This yard is bursting at the seams with lighted displays in sync with Christmas tunes. Santa and his elf helpers are there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, weather permitting.
Edgefield
Also off Buckwalter Parkway, the Edgefield neighborhood is aglow. Look for Stoney Crossing on Google maps. The number of homes decorated in this relatively small neighborhood makes it worth driving around, and the variety among the decorations keeps it interesting. (House-sized Abominable Snowman? Check!)
Bluffton Park
You can’t miss with a drive around Bluffton Park. Pick any place to start and enjoy the surprise of seeing what’s around the next corner as you wind your way through the neighborhood.
Old Town Bluffton
Before calling it a night, check out the lighted wreaths along May River Road on your way to Old Town. Once there, take a moment to drive around DuBois Park, home to the town’s lighted Christmas tree, and the new Martin Family Park on Boundary Street. Both parks are prettily lined with bright white lights.
