Lucas: Role of Penn Center in civil rights discussed in Beaufort on Saturday
The Penn Center’s role in the Civil Rights Movement will be at the center of discussion for the annual meeting of the Friends of the Beaufort Library this weekend.
Emory Campbell, former executive director of the Penn Center and author of “Gullah Cultural Legacies,” will serve as guest speaker at the meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, in the Penn Center Frissell Community House, 16 Penn Center Circle West, St. Helena Island.
The event also will feature Thomas Barnwell Jr., and retired Magistrate Joe McDermott as speakers.
