Lucas: Beaufort photography club holding youth nature contest

We’re fortunate to live in a place where we don’t have to go very far for breathtaking views or signs that spring has finally sprung.

One area photography contest will give young shutterbugs a chance to submit some of their best in this arena.

The Photography Club of Beaufort is accepting entries for its annual Dale Westcott high school nature contest.

An avid photographer, Westcott also was an educator and a member of the club before he died in 2005. Each year since, the club has given monetary awards and ribbons in his memory to the best student nature photographer.

The contest is open to all high school and home-schooled students residing in Beaufort County.

But you may want to act fast. The deadline for this year’s submissions is April 1. Judging will take place April 11 and awards will be given at the club’s regular monthly meeting on May 9.
