Lucas: Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra's Youth Concerto Competition heats up this weekend

For an exciting look at up and coming talent, you won't want to miss the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra's Youth Concerto Competition coming up this weekend.

The competition takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 at St. Luke's Church, 50 Pope Ave., Hilton Head.

Ten instrumentalists -- including seven violinists, one cellist, one violist and one xylophonist -- from throughout the southeastern United States have been selected from a field of forty-eight applicants. The finalists range from ages 13 to 18.

The 2015 First Prize Winner, Goeun Melody Sim, returns to Hilton Head to perform as soloist with the orchestra for its Valentine Romance concert on Feb. 14 and 15.

Tickets for the competition are $15 and will be available at the door.
