Lucas: Beaufort photography club kicks off annual exhibit this month
Can one word be the genesis for an entire story? The Photography Club of Beaufort certainly thinks so.
The club posed that challenge to its members for this year's annual member exhibit which kicks off with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 8, at the University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts, 805 Carteret Street.
"One Word Essay - Images that Speak" features more than 60 images, each working to capture the essence of a single word.
Photographers chose words like "daring" or "serenity" but even tried to capture "discombobulated" and the one-word 1960's song title "Papa-oom-mow-mow."
The club also partnered with Beaufort Elementary School for the challenge so in addition to member photos, student photos will be featured in the show as well.
The exhibit runs through Feb. 5.
