The Coastal Discovery Museum will present “Fabulous Fiber” with the Art Quilters of the Low Country from Sept. 13 through Oct. 29 at the museum.

An opening reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 16. The public is also invited to meet the artists, watch demonstrations and discuss techniques from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 27. Oct. 11 and Oct. 25.

The Art Quilters is a cooperative of fabric artists who design, quilt, exhibit and have a passion to teach their craft, according to a press release. Their work ranges from the large and abstract to intimate renderings of natural scenes and flora and fauna. The quilters Ron Hodge, Donna Stankiewicz, Shaaron Thomas, Peg Weschke and Jody Wigton.

Hodge uses linen, velvet, organza and beading in his art. Stankiewicz paints fabric and uses applique and thread-painting. Thomas paints on silk and embellishes with beads and thread-painting. Weschke creates Lowcountry scenes using fabric collages and embroidery. And Wigton uses color and improvisational piecing to create abstract art.

The Coastal Discovery Museum is at 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
