Hilton Head’s tourist hub is getting a makeover. But not everyone is on board.

The hotly-debated plans to redevelop Hilton Head Island’s main tourist destination took another step this week as the town released a bid for a contractor. Plans for the 15-acre Coligny site include the construction of a public park, a playground and a new building for The Sandbox children’s museum. It also will include street improvements to Lagoon Road, Nassau Street and South Forest Beach Drive.
