Local artists to exhibit work in Bluffton, Hilton Head
Bluffton and Hilton Head Island galleries are preparing for new exhibits in June.
Linda Clapp will be the featured artist Monday through July 4 at the Society of Bluffton Artists Gallery. Her show, "Color and Space," is a collection of oil and acrylic paintings.
And the "Mark Maute: Me and My Friends" exhibit will open Tuesday at the Art League of Hilton Head Island. In addition to painting, sculpture and collage/construction by Maute, the exhibit includes artwork by three of his friends, Robin Walton, Diana Nadanyl and Stephanie Woods.
MAUTE EXHIBIT
Mark Maute left teaching art in 1977 and threw away his art supplies and equipment. Thirty-five years later, he moved to Hilton Head full-time and took his first art class at the Academy of Art League of Hilton Head. Along the way, Maute worked with Walton, Nadanyl and Woods, who all share a commitment to color and design.
Exhibition dates: June 2-27, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday
Opening reception: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Refreshments will be served.

CLAPP EXHIBIT
Linda Clapp of Hilton Head was mentored by Richard Hauser for years and has participated in many workshops in the U.S. and Mexico, including with landscape painter Ann Templeton. Clapp's vibrant colors and impressionist style cover subjects from animals to Lowcountry landscapes.
Exhibition dates: June 1-July 4, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday
Opening reception: 5 to 7 p.m. June 5. Refreshments will be served.
Place: Society of Bluffton Artists Gallery, corner of Church and Calhoun streets in Bluffton.
