Morris & Whiteside Gallery Art Auction will offer 89 carefully selected lots sale Feb. 27.

The event, filled with a remarkable number of OMG moments, is designed to involve artists, appreciators, collectors, those who would like to begin collecting and the uninitiated. It begins promptly at 2 p.m.

If you would like to join in on auction day, you must make early arrangements. Call the gallery at 843-842-4433. Beginning Feb.22, come by to preview the work.

Auction partner Jack A. Morris, Jr., J. Ben Whiteside and David G. Leahy have over sixty years of fine art auction experience.

The auction features nationally recognized auctioneer Jason Brooks, who will handle the bid calling. Long a participant with the three organizers, he, with his sideman, will see to that careful process and add some light hearted entertainment to the afternoon. Seated at a table in the sightline of the auctioneer will be a support team that oversees the action on the floor, and absentee bids, telephone bidding and internet bidding. You do not have to be present at Morris & Whiteside headquarters to be a player.

Highlights of the collection

"Some of the most compelling pieces in the 2016 collection come from artists whose work we not only admire, but whose work we have presented at auction, many times before," said Morris. "Most particularly the work by Pino, Clark Hulings, Joe Bowler, Dan McCaw, Mandy Johnson, Dan, John and Danny McCaw, Michael B. Karas, Walter Palmer, Jim Palmer and Addison Palmer, Guido Petruzzi, and Dean Mitchell, to name just a few."

Pay close attention to the work of Pino and Clark Hulings for which the successful bidders paid generously last year. With estimates set at $80,000 to $120,000 for the Hulings "Near Woodville," the successful bidder paid $112,250. For the Pino, with an estimate of $16,000 to $20,000, "The Orange Scarf," went for $26,000.

Last year's most successful auction event brought in an impressive $325,000.

"We've assembled some of the most beautiful and collectible work," said Morris. "There are paintings by some of our long time associates and some important work from artists new to our collections. Look for paintings in watercolor, oil, acrylic, water color and gouache, color etching an aquatint, and pen and ink, all created in a variety of sizes, on paper and canvas even plexi. There are paintings by long time Lowcountry artists, and gallery friends from across the country, Europe, too, and an entirely new category of older works with historical significance."
