‘Adventure Time Side Quests' John DiMaggio and Sasha Knight Video Interview

“Adventure Time” is back, and it’s like it never left. “Adventure Time: Side Quests” feels like less of a spin-off or revival and more like “lost episodes” from the first couple of seasons when Finn the Human was still a little kid stumbling through the psychedelic fantasy world of the Land of Ooo.

The new show has some unique twists compared to the classic series, like a new art style that is reminiscent of the original but with a slightly different take on the iconic designs. The biggest change is the new voice actor for Finn the Human. While John DiMaggio and the rest of the cast returns to their classic roles, Jeremy Shada is too old to convincingly play young Finn, so a new actor, Sasha Knight, was brought on board to fill Shada’s voice-acting shoes. To his credit, the young actor does a great job, and it only took a few seconds for me to forget about the change in actor and just enjoy new adventures starring Finn.

I had the opportunity to have a quick chat with John DiMaggio and Sasha Knight. Our chat happened just a couple of days after the legendary “Knicks in Five” basketball victory, so forgive me and John for taking a New York/New Jersey victory lap. That aside, we have a nice talk about this new generation of “Adventure Time.” Sasha talks about stepping into the role of Finn and being a fan of the original cartoon growing up, while DiMaggio shares which of his “Adventure Time” characters is most difficult to play, and gives a delightfully endearing description of how he sees his performance as Jake the Dog. In the wake of Marcus Fenix returning in “Gears of War: E-Day” and the ongoing reign of Bender on Hulu’s revival of “Futurama,” DiMaggio points towards another one of his old shows he’d like to see come back someday (spoiler: it’s “”Kim Possible!”).

Our complete chat can be found below. All 20 episodes of “Adventure Time: Side Quests” are now streaming on Hulu and Disney+. As for further seasons, yeah, that’s the hope, but the official word hasn’t come down yet.
