Ryan Gosling Reveals Criticism He Receives Most Often
It’s apt that the movie is called Remember the Titans because fans will never let Ryan Gosling forget it.
Gosling joined Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce on their New Heights podcast to promote Project Hail Mary. The Kelce brothers are future Hall of Fame NFL stars, not film critics, but they are uniquely qualified to confirm an enduring criticism from Gosling’s renowned filmography.
“You had to call out Remember the Titans, too, man,” Gosling said. “Never forget that I’m a liability at the corner.”
The context behind Gosling’s comment is two-fold.
First, Gosling played Alan Bosley in the iconic 2000 biographical sports drama starring Denzel Washington. In the movie, Alan is a white cornerback on the all-white football team before T.C. Williams High School integrated. As soon as the team is desegregated, Alan struggles to keep up. In the end, Alan benches himself in favor of Petey Jones (Donald Faison), who helps the Titans win the state championship.
Second, Jason and Travis went viral for discussing the scarcity of white cornerbacks in the NFL on New Heights in October 2022.
“It doesn’t matter what I accomplish in my life, there will be someone in the comments section that says, ‘Never forget he’s an absolute liability at the corner,'” Gosling told Jason and Travis. “It doesn’t matter what I do.”
Fantasy football pundit Ian Hartitz mounted a strong case in Alan’s defense, for those deeply invested in this niche rabbit hole of Gosling’s career:
The rest of the Kelce brothers’ conversation with Gosling covered Project Hail Mary, which will have its theatrical release this weekend, Star Wars: Starfighter, Harrison Ford, and more. Watch it all here.
