On Saturday afternoon, Shane Lowry put himself in contention at the Masters with a remarkable hole-in-one at the sixth hole.

The Irishman carded the seventh hole-in-one at No. 6 in Masters tournament history on Saturday, fading the ball into the 190-yard Par 3. His shot bounced twice before rolling right into the cup.

With the ace, Lowry went from 6- to 8-under, good enough to put himself into a tie for second place with Cameron Young, Patrick Reed and Sam Burns — all of whom are chasing Rory McIlroy, who was at 12-under when Lowry made his hole-in-one.

This was just the 35th hole-in-one during the Masters tournament all time and the first since Stewart Cink recorded an ace on No. 16 back in 2022. The 16th hole has seen 24 of the 35 holes-in-one during tournament play at Augusta National.

With Lowry’s shot, the sixth hole has now seen seven aces. Before Saturday, though, only one player (Corey Connors in 2021) had aced the downhill Par 3 in nearly the last 15 years.

Lowry, the 2019 Open Championship winner, is looking for his second major and his first green jacket. The good news: He’s played well at Augusta National before ... just not on Sundays. In three of the last four years, Lowry has entered the final round of the Masters in the Top 10 but only finished there once (2022 // T-3).

With his ace on No. 6, Lowry — playing in his 11th Masters — will likely put himself into the Top 10 once again heading into the final round on Sunday.
