New floor transforms haggard space into grand garage
DIY'er: Val Spina of Beaufort
Project: Garage floor
A weekend was all it took to transform Val Spina's Beaufort unsightly garage floor into a stylish new space. Here's his story.
Our garage floor looked terrible. It was one of the worst-looking floors around, and I was determined to somehow improve it (there were also strong objections from my wife about its appearance, too).
TRIAL AND ERROR
I had made several attempts to try and paint the floor, but hot car tires kept lifting off the color. To epoxy the space would have required first doing a major acid wash, and I didn't want to endanger the immediate environment. So I thought rubber tiles seemed to be a perfect solution.
I had seen RaceDeck modular garage flooring systems featured on HGTV, the DIY Network and "Extreme Home Makeover" so I felt it was almost like an endorsement. The product must be a good one.
EASY TO CREATE
The website made it easy to create my own floor design and allowed me to choose the colors I wanted. Installing the tiles was simple. They snapped together easily using a rubber mallet. When pieces needed to be cut, it was done easily with a hacksaw.
I couldn't be happier with the results. The floor is easy to maintain and it makes the garage feel like a whole new room. There was no anxiety from beginning to end and I finished the project in just two days. The transformation is really incredible.
