Savannah is seeking the public’s advice on what to do with its Confederate Memorial

The city of Savannah is inviting suggestions about what to do with their Confederate memorial in Forsyth Park, the city said in an Oct. 30 release on their website.

They have created a Confederate Memorial Task Force to develop ideas about what, if anything, to do with the controversial landmark. That task force has turned to the public for help, inviting input through 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, the site says.

The task force has set up an online survey where people can vote on whether the monument should be removed, modified, have interpretive signage added placing it in a historical context, or be left as it is.

The survey page also gives a brief history of the monument, which was completed in 1875, a decade after the conclusion of the Civil War.

Those wishing to take the survey can go to savannahga.gov/confederatememorial.
