Eight public schools in Beaufort County to provide free meals to all students
The Beaufort County School District will offer free breakfasts and lunches to all students at eight schools this year.
Beaufort Elementary, Lady’s Island Elementary, Robert Smalls International Academy, Joseph J. Shanklin Elementary, St. Helena Elementary, Whale Branch Elementary, Whale Branch Middle and Whale Branch Early College High schools will offer free meals through the federally funded Community Eligibility Provision.
The provision provides free meals to all students in schools that serve predominantly low-income children.
All other district schools will continue to offer free and reduced-price lunches to those who qualify under the National School Lunch Program. Parents must apply to demonstrate financial need.
The application can be completed through the district’s InfoSnap registration.
Sixty-one percent of students were eligibile for free or reduced meal prices in 2016, according to the district’s 2017 report card.
