Recreation briefs, June 25: Beaufort Masters, Sun City swimmers excel at Greenville meet

Phil Neubig set eight state records as Beaufort Masters swim team finished third this past weekend at the "Shut Up and Swim" Roy Dessloch Invitational in Greenville, which served as the de facto state championship.

This long course -- 50-meter -- event was in honor of longtime Greenville coach Roy Dessloch. Nineteen teams and more than 160 swimmers competed.

Beaufort finished third with 820 points, while Sun City Swim Club finished with 90.

For Beaufort, Meredith Anderson, Nathan Andrepont, Barbara Eisele (also a member of Sun City Swim Club), Louis Ackerman and Phil and Nick Neubig all won high points.

Eisele set a state record in the 200 Breast. Phil Neubig set records in the 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1500-meter freestyle, the 50 and 100-meter backstroke and the 50-meter breaststroke.

Daniel and Nathan Andrepont, Pete Palmer and Nick Neubig set a relay record in the 800 freestyle.

First place winners for Beaufort: Anderson (50, 100, 200, 800 free; 50, 100 fly; 50 breast and 400 IM), Eisele (200, 400 IM; 50, 100, 200 breast, 50, 200 back; 50, 100 fly), Ackerman (200, 400 IM; 50, 100, 200 fly), Nathan Andrepont (200 IM; 50, 100 back; 50 breast; 50 fly; 200 free), Pete Palmer (100, 200 breast) Daniel Andrepont (100 back, 50 fly, 200 free, 400 IM), Rachael Andrepont (50 free, 50 back), Nick Neubig (200 back, 100, 200 fly), Phil Neubig (100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 free; 50, 100 back, 50 breast).

Amy O'Dell, Laura Richardson, Wallace Thomas and Dennis Glaves also brought in points for Beaufort.

For Sun City, the team made up of Jo Stewart, Jim Bedient, Cynthia Smith and Mike Farnham won the 200 medley relay and finished second in the mixed 200 free relay.

Nana Whalen won the 200 IM and 50 fly and finished second in the 200 back, 400 free, 100 free, 100 back and 200 free. She also finished third in the 50 back and fourth in the 50 breast.

Jo Stewart finished third in the 50 free, 50 breast and 100 back and was fourth in the 50 back. Jim Bedient finished fourth in the 100 breast and 50 back and was fifth in the 50 breast and the 50 free.

Cynthia Smith won the 50 free and 50 back and was second in the 50 fly. Mike Farnham was fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free.
