AREA VOLLEYBALL TEAMS STRONG IN TOURNAMENTS
Low Country Blacktip Volleyball's U17 National team finished as runner-up last weekend in the ninth annual Monument City Classic in Richmond, Va.
The Low Country team was second out of 24 teams in the U17 club division. The girls won seven straight matches to reach the finals but lost a close match (23-25, 25-6, 12-15) to a team from Bloomington, N.C.
Players for the U17 National team are Mallory Lewis, Jordan Franklin, Sierra Davis, Brantley Herrington, Hannah Edelman, Haley Kohler and Melissa Bornstein. They are coached by Priscilla Kelly and Jessica Howard.

The Low Country Blacktips U13 team took first place in the silver division at last weekend's MLK Winter Bump in Myrtle Beach. The team went 5-4 in the tournament.
Players on the U13 team are Sydney Janson, Grace Coburn, Bethany Mullins, Keira Wojcikiewicz, Megan Briody, Lizzie Rhoads, Lauren Reed, Grace Vanderslice, Olivia Janson and Gabi Custer. The team is coached by Marianne Marcantonio with assistants Alisa Rhoads and Susan Janson.
H2A SWIMMERS BRING HOME MEDALS FROM ATLANTA
Hilton Head Aquatics participated in the SCAT Winter Kick Off January 18-19 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Nearly a thousand swimmers from throughout the Southeast participated in the event.
H2A swimmers earned nine first-place medals and many top-10 finishes in various age divisions.

PALS SPRING SPORTS REGISTRATION BEGINS THIS WEEK
Registration for Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services (PALS) spring sports will begin Wednesday at the Burton Wells Recreation Center in Beaufort and the Buckwalter Recreation Center in Bluffton.
Registration for baseball (ages 4 to 17) and softball (ages 6 to15) will be open from Jan. 30 to Feb. 27 at Burton Wells in Beaufort. Cost is $65.
Registration for soccer (ages 4 to18) will be held Jan. 30 to Feb. 27 at both Burton Wells and Buckwalter. The cost is $60.
Players must provide a completed application, which can be found online at www.bcgov.net/PALS or at the two recreation centers. A birth certificate for all players is required.
Volunteer coaches are being sought. Interested adults must complete a coach application, code of conduct and background investigation available on the website.
YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS SEEKING SPONSORS
Beaufort County PALS is looking for sponsors for its youth sports programs. Sponsors are being sought in baseball, softball and soccer in Beaufort, and for soccer in Bluffton. Sponsorships range from $300 to $2,500.
