BEAUFORT SPORTFISHING AND DIVING CLUB MEETING: When: Oct. 11; Where: Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club, Lady's Island; Time: Social at 6:30 p.m., meeting at 7 p.m.; Notes: Capt. Brian McCaffree of Holden On Charters will give a presentation on where and how to catch fish during this time of year. He will also display rods and reels and compare different lures and techniques. FRIENDS OF HUNTING ISLAND 5K RUN/WALK: When: 10 a.m., Oct. 13; Where: Hunting Island State Park; Cost: $25 for 5K run, $100 for 5K teams, $15 for walk; Notes: Team event is new this year. Teams of 5 can compete in two age divisions (under 18, 18 and over). On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Nature Center near the Fripp Island bridge. All pre-registered racers will receive a commemorative shirt and be entered into a prize raffle. Awards to top 3 overall runners, and participation medals for everyone. DATAW ISLAND CUP: Where: Dataw Island Yacht Club; When: 11 a.m., Oct. 27; Cost: $25 per boat ($30 after Oct. 12); Notes: Welcoming party and skippers meeting at the marina's gazebo at 6 p.m., Oct. 26. The 22-mile race starts on the Coosaw River just east of the Brickyards, proceeds down the Coosaw River to St. Helena Sound, then heads up the Morgan River to finish at the Dataw Island Marina. Regatta is open to displacement, mono hull sailboats that are at least 18 feet LOA. Spinnakers will be allowed. Dock party and awards dinner after race. DAVID M. CARMINES MEMORIAL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS: When: Nov. 16-18; Where: Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center, Hilton Head Island; Cost: Ages 8-10 -- $25; Juniors -- $40 for one event or $50 for two; Adults -- $45 for one event or $55 for two; Notes: Adult and junior divisions. Junior event is USTA sanctioned, and will feature QuickStart format for younger divisions. Adult tournament will have singles, doubles and mixed doubles divisions. All proceeds go to the David M.
