VICKI HAMILTON TO SPEAK TO ATHLETIC CLUB OF LOWCOUNTRY

Vicki Hamilton, a former softball and volleyball coach at the University of South Carolina and Appalachian State, will be the featured speaker at Monday's monthly meeting of the Athletic Club of the Lowcountry.

The meeting will take place in room 156 of the Hargray Building on the USC Beaufort campus in Bluffton off Route 278. The social will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Hamilton's talk at 7.

Hamilton has spent the past 34 years in sports administration, coaching and educational leadership, mostly in the Charlotte area.

She will speak about a number of topics including how women have fit into sports on the professional, college and high school level. She also will talk about her experiences with the Maravich family, with whom she worked for a number of years organizing basketball camps.

WEEK OF CHAMPIONS RETURNS IN JUNE; APP STATE'S MOORE TO SPEAK AT ANNUAL BANQUET

The annual Week of Champions, a week of free sports clinics with Christian professional athletes in attendance, will take place June 11-15.

Clinics in football, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and cheerleading will be held on Hilton Head Island. In addition, football, soccer and baseball clinics will be held at Bluffton High School.

In addition to getting a chance to work with the pros, participating children will receive free T-shirts at the clinics.

The Week of Champions sports banquet will be held June 11 at the Crowne Plaza. Jerry Moore, head football coach at Appalachian State, will be the keynote speaker. In 23 seasons at Appalachian State, Moore has compiled a 207-83 record, making him the winningest coach in Southern Conference history.

On Sunday, June 10, many of the athletes will be speaking in churches throughout the Lowcountry.
