STAN SMITH TO SPEAK TO ATHLETIC CLUB

Tennis legend and Hilton Head Island resident Stan Smith will be the guest speaker for the Athletic Club of the Lowcountry's next meeting at 7 p.m., Sept. 22, at the Palmetto Electric building on U.S. 278 across from the USC Beaufort campus in Bluffton.

Smith, a past champion at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, has stayed active in tennis. He helps run the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy on Hilton Head Island.

Guests are welcome for a $10 fee. For information on the meeting or joining the club, call 540-7159.

RUGBY CLUB SEEKING PLAYERS AS NEW SEASON BEGINS

The Hilton Head Rugby Club is preparing to open its 2011-12 season and is looking for players. No experience is necessary.

The club practices at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Crossings Park on Hilton Head Island. The Gators' first matches will come Sept. 17-18 in the Black Rose Tournament in Statesboro, Ga.
