STAN SMITH SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT POSTPONED

The Athletic Club of the Lowcountry meeting scheduled for Monday has been cancelled due to the extension of the U.S. Open in New York, where scheduled guest speaker Stan Smith must remain for the duration of play before returning to South Carolina.

The meeting will be rescheduled and interested parties notified.

LOCAL PLAYERS WIN TITLES AT AUGUSTA TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Hilton Head Island junior tennis player Carston Fisher brought home a singles and doubles championship from the Papa John's Georgialina Junior Tennis Classic Championships in Augusta last weekend.

Fisher, who plays for Hilton Head High, lost only one set en route to a boys 16-and-under singles championship, and paired with fellow islander Jack O'Koniewski to win the boys 16 doubles event.

Will Danzell and Justin Boulais won the boys 12 title at the same tournament. Christian Harris was part of a doubles championship in the boys 18 bracket and also took third in the singles draw.

Isabelle Boulais was a finalist in the girls 14 doubles. Matthew Oliver took fourth in boys 12 singles.

RUGBY CLUB SEEKING PLAYERS AS NEW SEASON BEGINS

The Hilton Head Rugby Club is preparing to open its 2011-12 season and is looking for players. No experience is necessary.

The club practices at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Crossings Park on Hilton Head Island. The Gators' first matches will come Sept. 17-18 in the Black Rose Tournament in Statesboro, Ga.
