TIDES WIN USSSA WORLD SERIES

The Tides 8-and-under baseball team brought home its second world series title of the season over the weekend in Charleston, going 6-1 to claim the championship of the Global Sports USSSA World Series.

The Tides, made up of players from Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, hammered the Blythewood Buccaneers in the title game, 18-3. The Tides defeated the North Wake (N.C.) Knights, 10-3, in the semifinals.

Cooper George batted .857 with 10 doubles and a triple and was selected the tournament MVP. Other stars on offense for the Tides were Trent Broadenax (.619), Harrison Green (.590), Niko Laing (.590), Garrett Junk (.588), JP Peduzzi (.571), Brody Morgan (.476), Kyle Sullivan (.444), Will McCracken (.428), John Ian Suttay (.411) and Zack Morrillo (.400).

The Tides (58-8) also won the wheel pitch world series in Brunswick, Ga., earlier this season.

BC UNITED 3RD IN STATE CHAMPIONS CUP

The B.C. United under-9 boys soccer team captured third place in the South Carolina State Champions Cup 3-on-3 tournament held July 23 in Summerville.

B.C. United defeated the Bluffton Sharks, 6-1, and the Red Bulls of Summerville, 7-3, to advance to the semifinals. Juventus edged B.C. United 5-4 on a golden goal in the semis, but Aki Carter scored twice and Dawson Coleman had a goal to help United bounce back to defeat Real NASA 3-1 in the third-place match.
