- JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS SEASON WRAPS UP
The Junior Team Tennis season concluded recently, with local winners being crowned in two divisions.
Hilton Head, coached by Scott Nichols won the 18-and-under intermediate division and the Bluffton Badkatz, coached by Robert Brown, were the 14-and-under intermediate champions during the fall/winter season.
In the spring/summer season, Brown's Bluffton Badkatz won the 18-and-under intermediate title and Hilton Head Beach and Tennis, coached by Eric Wammock, was the champion of the 14-and-under intermediate division.
These teams have the opportunity to move on to the Junior Team Tennis State Championships on July 15-17 at Sumter's Palmetto Tennis Center. State winners have the chance to advance all the way to the USTA national championships.

Gator Football focuses on teamwork, fair play and good sportsmanship while teaching the fundamentals of football.
The season begins Aug. 1 and runs into November, with practices throughout the week. Teams play on Saturdays in the Low Country Youth football league.

McELROY TO RECEIVE MARTIAL ARTS HONOR
Local martial arts expert Rick McElroy is scheduled to be inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame's "Hall of Heroes" on Aug. 20 in Atlanta.
The inductees, who required six alumni hall of fame votes for nomination, must demonstrate excellence in their art and promote the growth of martial arts in their communities.
McElroy is one of less than 100 individuals in the world who have instructorship rankings under all three Masters Master Instructors, Sifu Dan Inosanto, Sifu Francis Fong and Master Arjan Chai.
