SUN CITY TRAVEL TEAM TAKES 2ND AT ANNUAL TOURNEY

The Sun City travel softball team went 3-1 and finished second in the annual Spring Sun City Classic over the weekend. The Charleston Patriots claimed the championship of the tournament.

Sun City defeated SHARE, 25-17, on Saturday before falling to Charleston, 10-8. Sun City then won both of its games on Sunday, 19-4 and 21-12, over Carolina Lakes of Charlotte.

Red Kopytko had two home runs and five RBIs in the win over SHARE. Tom DaParma and Don Winchester combined for seven hits and five runs, and Ken Abshier, Randy Johnson, Doug Baker and Craig Waite had three hits each. Johnson had four RBIs.

Charleston pitcher Roy Buckheister held Sun City's offense in check in the second game. Sun City pitcher Mark Lubowsky limited Charleston to one run in the last three innings.

In Sun City's 19-4 win over Carolina Lakes, pitcher Bob Lee went 3 for 3 with an RBI. DaParma was 4 for 4 with three RBIs. Dean Waters had a homer and four RBIs, and Dennis Jackson, Kopykto and Winchester had three hits apiece.

In the final game of the tournament, Sun City's Don Feldkamp went 4 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs in another win over Carolina Lakes. Kopytko added a homer among three hits with four RBIs. DaParma, Winchester and Waters had three hits apiece, and Dave Sauer had three RBIs.

TIDES WIN TITLE AT GEORGIA GAMES

The 8-and-under Tides baseball team won the Georgia Games in Savannah over the weekend. The Tides, made of players from Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, went 4-0 in the gold division, outscoring their opponents 70-20. The Tides defeated the Savannah Sundevils, 17-8, in the championship game.

Camden Ryan and John Ian Sutay were named co-MVPs. The Tides were led offensively by Harrison Green (.800), Kyle Sullivan (.750), JP Peduzzi (.750, 2 HRs), Steffan Gadson (.750), Cooper George (.714) and Zack Morillo (.615, 3 HRs).
