EPPERSON TO SPEAK AT ATHLETIC CLUB MEETING

Chris Epperson, a local resident and touring golf professional, will be the guest speaker at the April meeting of the Athletic Club of the Lowcountry.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 18, at the Palmetto Electric building on U.S. 278 in Bluffton, across from the USC Beaufort campus.

Epperson's appearance will start a busy week for him, as he has received a spot to play in the PGA Tour's Heritage tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links.

BLUFFTON BLAZE WIN APRIL SHOWERS TOURNAMENT

The Bluffton Blaze 12-and-under baseball team brought home the championship of the April Showers USSSA tournament held April 2-3 in Statesboro, Ga.

The Blaze defeated the Hilton Head TIdes and the Burke County Heat to reach the title game, in which they knocked of the Line Drive at the Mill Creek Baseball Complex.

Tim Ortega, Nick Lucchesi, Trenton Daley, Matt Grunder and Cooper Morgan hit home runs during the weekend for the Blaze. Other members of the Blaze were: Kyle Adkins, Connor O'Brien, Tad Zmarzly, Tanner Soulia, Justin Rice, James Brighton and Grayson Lowe.

8U TIDES WIN THIRD STRAIGHT BASEBALL TOURNEY

The 8-and-under Tides, a team of players from Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, won their third baseball tournament in a row over the weekend in Burton Wells.

The Tides went 3-1 while winning the Bling in the Spring USSSA Championship, outscoring their opponents 60-15 along the way. The Tides defeated the Carolina Sox 10-1 in the championship game.

Kyle Sullivan was named the tournament MVP, batting .615 with five doubles and 10 RBIs. Shortstop Harrison Green led the team defensively. John Patrick Peduzzi hit .777, Niko Lang .714, Cooper George .667, Garret Junk .636, Steffan Gadson .636, Julian Mlodzinski .636, and Camden Ryan .545.

The 9U Tides and 10U Tides also were crowned champions on the weekend in their age groups.
