BEAUFORT'S ARMSTRONG GOING FOR WORLD RECORD THIS SUNDAY

The Guinness Book of World Records is coming to the Wardle Family YMCA in Port Royal on Sunday to document Richard Armstrong's attempt to set a weightlifting mark.

The 51-year-old Beaufort resident will try to lift 180,000 pounds in less than an hour -- a pace of more than 3,000 pounds per minute. The event will begin at noon.

Armstrong, a YMCA member, already holds several world records. He has pushed a car for hours, done thousands of walking lunges, eaten pounds of french fries and steak, and flown a kite for several days straight in previous attempts to break world records.

The Beaufort County YMCA is located at 1801 Richmond Avenue in Port Royal. For more information, stop by the Y or call 843-522-9622.
