BEAUFORT MASTERS BRING HOME ANOTHER STATE TITLE

For the 16th time, the Beaufort Masters swim team captured the South Carolina Masters Short Course State Championship, easily bringing home the title from this weekend's meet in Columbia.

Beaufort had one individual and two relay teams set state records.

Pete Palmer set nine records at the meet: 200-meter freestyle (3:31.13), 1500 free (29:25.93), 50 butterfly (54.98), 100 individual medley (1:47.38), 50 breaststroke (49.22), 100 breast (1:56.08), 50 backstroke (49.42), 100 back (1:49.92) and 200 back (3:47.19).

John Youmans, Phil Neubig, Louis Ackerman and Palmer teamed up to set the top mark in the 200 freestyle relay (3:28.5) and 200 medley relay (4:33.24).

Beaufort had nine swimmers win the High Point Award for their age group: Daniel Andrepont, Cartos Black, Kevin Campbell, JoAnn Chapman, Scott Graber, Jeff Herndon, Phil Neubig, Pete Palmer, Jim VanCleve.

Other first-place winners for Beaufort: Heather Gnau, Susan Thomas, Jodi Joye, Stacy Gartner, Katie Howell, Timothy Andrepont, Dan Ahern, Stephen Ferry, Donald White, Ethan Howell, Nathan Andrepont, Benjamin Bruun.

The following Beaufort swimmers were on winning relay teams: Gary Ayers, Dennis Glaves, Dawn Frank, Kit Bruce, Viki Hill, Kit Bruce, Jane Frederick, Candace Fritz, Linda Arp, Michael Hughes, Wallace Thomas.

BEAUFORT COUNTY UNITED TEAMS IN STATE TOURNEY

The Beaufort County United Soccer Club's U-16 boys team Riptide went 3-0-1 in the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association's President's Medal Cup tournament over the weekend in Greenville, finishing first in their flight to secure a spot in the championship.

Goalkeeper Brian Ludewig recorded two shutouts for the Riptide, who will compete for the Division II State Cup tonight in Mount Pleasant. The Riptide, coached by John Binner, will face Beach United Copa at Patriots Point.

The Beaufort County United U-18 boys qualified for the state playoffs on the final day of their season in the SC Challenge League with a 4-1 win at Congaree. The Riptide will go into the postseason as the No. 8 seed. The first round games for the SCYSA Bob Brantley Publix Challenge State Cup will take place Nov. 29 to Dec. 4.
