Playoff pairings set for Beaufort, Hilton Head, Battery Creek, Whale Branch



Hilton Head Island didn’t win it’s first region title since 2008, falling to Hanahan 49-45 on Friday night. But the Seahawks earned to the No. 2 seed in Region 8-AAA and will open the playoffs Friday at home against Aiken (6-4).

The Seahawks (9-1) have faced the Fighting Green Hornets just once, a 24-9 playoff loss at home in 1989.

Beaufort’s win over Berkeley, powered by Omar Cummings’ eight touchdowns, got the Eagles (5-5) in the playoffs, as well.

Beaufort, a No. 4 seed, will travel to No. 1 seed Midland Valley (6-4). Beaufort is 0-2 all-time against Midland Valley with the last meeting coming in 1989.

Whale Branch secured the second seed in the Lower State of the Class 2-A Division II playoffs. The Warriors (5-5) host seventh-seeded Johnsonville (7-3). The Warriors have never faced the Flashes.

Battery Creek is the sixth seed in the Lower State of the Class 2-A Division I playoffs. The Dolphins (4-6) visit third-seeded Timberland (8-2). It’s the first meeting for the two teams.
