Former Beaufort High star Parker released by Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks waived former Beaufort High School star Ron Parker on Friday.

The Seahawks signed Parker off the Carolina Panthers practice squad to their active roster Dec. 5. He was active for two games and recorded two tackles in Seattle's Week 15 50-17 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Parker, a cornerback who played free safety at Newberry College, played in three games for the Panthers earlier this season, recording one special teams tackle.

It was the third tour of duty in Seattle for Parker, who originally signed with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent on July 26, 2011.

He signed with Oakland after his release by Seattle following training camp and played in three games for the Raiders. After his release by Oakland on Oct. 22, 2011, Seattle reclaimed Parker off waivers. He played in two games on special teams before landing on injured reserve with an Achilles injury on Dec. 13.

This season, Seattle released him after training camp, and he was picked up by Carolina.

Parker was one of the most honored players in Newberry history, earning 10 All-America selections from various organizations.

After his senior season in 2010, he was named a first-team All-American by D2Football.com and Don Hansen's Football Gazette, a second-team All-American by Daktronics and a third-team Little All-American by the Associated Press.

In his senior season, Parker led the South Atlantic Conference in interceptions and fumble recoveries and made 59 tackles. As a junior in 2009, he was named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
